Oh, hi! So you want to know more?
education and work.

After graduating with a first class honours degree in Graphic and Media Design from University of Wales Trinity St David in 2015 and winning a couple of awards during my time there (a student YCN Award for redesigning the J2O  packaging and also the Brian Hatton Award for Most Promising student) I had the pleasure of working with the BBC's Arabic Film Festival in 2015 and 2017, hand lettering Scroobius Pip's body for his music video "You Will See Me(which also went on to win Independent Video of the Year award at the AIM Independent Music Awards) and my typography was featured in international design magazine IdN in 2013. Most recent publications include  The Lettering Yearbook by Slanted Publishers in October 2023 and in Fedrigoni's 365 project, available in December 2023.

During my career I have worked in both studio and in-house environments and have collaborated on projects from all over the world, but what about everything else...?

My love for lettering...

I've always loved beautiful words, even when I was a teenager I'd scribble lyrics down onto a scrap piece of paper into my diary, and I mean pages and pages of them, and then just... hoarded them (or used them for cryptic MSN statuses, IYKYK).

I discovered typography in my early 20s through DeviantArt and eventually finding Jessica Hische, and finally I had a creative outlet for all of these words I'd been hoarding since I was a teenager. So... my love for hand lettering was born (after a small diversion putting typography quotes together and using an illegal amount of different fonts, but we live, learn and improve!)

I find the art of drawing letters completely meditative and I can be lost for hours perfecting letterforms whether it's on my iPad, a sketch book or moving into my other craft practices of painting and embroidery.

In my spare time...

Most weekends you can find me running around the great outdoors with my husband and my trusty FujiFilm X100F. If you're a curious cat, you can see a little bit of my photography here.

I've also got a life-long dream of rollerskating like the skaters at the end of Xanadu and I skate whenever I have the chance to put on 8 wheels. I will also dance to almost anything and definitely anywhere (literally), if the beat is good, I will bop!

And finally, like any letterer or graphic designer, all my spare change goes on buying stationery, I have more sketchbooks than I can use at this point but it won't stop me from buying more... or 5 extra Kaweco pens!

the name...

If you're at all curious about where the name "The Lucky Type" came from, the short version is that I'm notorious for having iffy luck, which used to be an in-joke with my family that the lack of luck is hereditary, and so started my obsession with lucky talismans, fate and having my fortune read etc and my other obsession is typography and lettering (but I didn't think of naming myself the Lucky Letterer at the time), so here we are combining my two obsessions with the Lucky Type.

Dammit, I wish I'd thought of The Lucky Letterer back in 2016!
